In the context of Singapore, the decision to adopt Szilagyi's view should be rather obvious.
Singapore, as we all know, is a multi-racial, multi-culture and multi-religion society. All these in mind, it is vital to Singapore's social and economic aspect that our country uphold social responsibility. With the recent terrorist threat that involves the Muslim community, the Singapore government has taken a firm stand against terrorism and also further emphasised the need for Singaporean Muslims and the rest of the other races to live in peace. Encouraging the religious leaders to spread the message to the various communities was also part of the anti-terrorist plan. Witnessing the government's actions today proves that if we are not mindful of what we say, we can easily cause a large-scale conflict within our own country. It would therefore be everyone's social responsibility to think twice before making a comment that could be the key to a country's internal social status, and perhapes, even the global world.
Some may argue about the point of 'freedom of speech' in the country. Does that mean, in the name of 'freedom of speech', we can simply forget our limits and cross the boundaries between religions and races? Unless we want to travel back to the time of uncertainty and destruction, in other words, the racial riots that Singapore went through during the 1960s, we ought to have mutual respect for each others religion, race and culture.
Undoubtly, we should maintain freedom of expression but not to the extent of risking people insulting another religion. A certain code of respect needs to be followed, despite having the 'freedom of speech', otherwise dire consequences would occur as seen from the conflict that was sparked off by the cartoon on Prophet Muhammad. Singapore cannot afford to suffer another economic downfall and social unrest. It would be detrimental to her and innocent Singaporeans.

youtube assignment qn 1
1. “YouTube has no ethics, it's been created for the sole purpose of entertainment and money.” Do you agree?
I agree to the statement, but first, the definition of keywords is of utmost importance. Ethics, is defined as a system of moral principles or values. When we say someone has no ethics, it simply means that the person is immoral. In this case, I feel that the now popular video-sharing website, Youtube, is "immoral" as according to the definition above.
Youtube has, so far, not shown any signs of upholding any moral principles. In a recent news article, there have been several reports on the insults of the Thai King, King Bhumibol Adulyadej. A video was uploaded on Youtube, showing images of feet being placed over the king's face which was an offensive act to Thais, who consider feet dirty. Never mind the fact that the video was allowed to be uploaded on the website, Youtube was also claimed to have taken a long time to remove the upsetting video. How could this happen if Youtube had ethics? Shouldn't they have a filtering system to prevent such cases from happening? If they say that they did not anticipate this at all, then sadly, they lack the quality of being forward-looking in the business and social world. Youtube, through this incident, clearly demonstrated the lack of respect for countries in the world, not only to the victimised Thailand. There have been other reports saying that Youtube also became a "free consultation clinic" for Youtube users. Videos of offering tips about how to deal with medical issues were posted on the website, allowing people to endanger their own lives unknowingly. In the first place, such videos should not be allowed to be posted as this may create a wrong judgement in people's minds, especially videos that claim "unsupported facts". This clearly demonstrates that Youtube has no sense of responsibility instilled in them, since they allow these unethical acts to be carried out in society, ie the lack of respect for others and giving false information, which is equivalent to lying to the masses of Youtube users. Again, we must ask ourselves, is Youtube ethical? The answer is obvious and undoubtedly no.

Youth for Causes Group Proposal
Group Members: Eugene Wong, Dawn Lim, Katherine Phang, Tan Siew Ghim
Name of Volunteer Welfare Organization:
Club Rainbow (Singapore)
The theme for our project is ‘Touch Hearts, Reach Out, for the Rainbow of Hope’.
Main Fund Raising Idea:
Selling of the colored cards, postcards & bookmarks.
Product 1)
Colored Card
We got this idea as the Club Rainbow has helped many of the children to build a Rainbow of Hope. We plan to sell heart-shaped colored cards (according to our theme which includes ‘Touch Hearts’) and rainbow-shaped Post-It Pads in packets for $2. We will also include invitation slips for the carnival cum concert in the packet to advertise our event. The buyers can choose to write words of encouragements on the card before returning it to us. This colored card will be collected back for the record breaking event (if possible).
We can either, connect the cards collected to form a long line, or stick on a wall to create a big drawing of a rainbow. We may be able to make a mark in the World Guinness Book of Records for the longest man-made rainbow chain formed or the largest rainbow portrait if we have time to apply for it. Otherwise our ‘Rainbow of Hope’ portrait will be given to Club Rainbow for decoration purposes.
Product 2)
Postcards and the bookmarks will bear some of the children’s and our student’s art work.
We believe that co-operation between members from the Club Rainbow and Anderson Junior College will help strengthen the bonds among us. Children will be exposed to what fund-raising is about and play an important role in this project. In addition, students can have fun and contribute back to the society at the same time. Most importantly, we hope that the public appreciate the efforts we put in designing the products, and support the sales of items for charity.
This is a representation of the “Reach Out” phrase in our theme; we hope that people will make a sincere donation to bring hope into the children’s lives.
We will firstly start off the project by distributing order forms to all the schools in Singapore for the sale of the heart cards, postcards and bookmarks. They will be priced at $2 each, and if they buy all 3 items at one go, it will be $5 for the whole package. (We will strongly encourage schools to purchase the package.)
After we confirmed the number of orders, we would then send the postcards and bookmarks for printing. We hope that the distribution of products for sale in schools will not only boost the amount of donation, but more importantly, students can help to spread the message, ‘Touch Hearts, Reach Out, for the Rainbow of Hope’ to their family members as well.
We would also involve the recruited volunteers to help with the folding of the hearts and the packing of the various items into a package. We will also make use of this opportunity to inform the people about Club Rainbow Singapore and at the same time publicize our record-breaking carnival cum concert by placing invitation slips into the package.

my very 1st post!!!!!
Yo people! This is the very first time I actually own a blog!!! I really don't know if I am really excited, but anyway, this blog is strictly for GP only,so no blabbering about the wrong stuff here...
Anyway, just to give a short introduction about myself. I'm a girl ( just turned 17 not long ago! ) with a great family, great school and you may say a great life too! Up till now, I'm still ordinary just like any 17 year-old. Hobbies like listening to my MP3 and chatting on MSN applies to me! But I still have to admit that I do go overboard sometimes, so for now, I'm trying desperately to change my bad habit of being hooked to watching Youtube videos. I won't say much about my personality here, as I feel that people who know me well would already be quite prepared to use a whole list of adjectives to describe me. So there, people who want to know more, please feel free to ask around!
I can say that at this point of time, while I'm typing this entry here, I'm actually praying hard for tomorrow's result, which determines if I get to stay in ODAC or not. When I first joined ODAC, I was really new to all the different skills, which others from uniform groups already learnt. To me, it was a long process, trying to memorise the different knots and lashings. We also learnt how to do orienteering, pitch a tent, rock climbing and bouldering. But best of all, I managed to try a hand at kayaking! Being a lover of the water, I simply love indulging myself in any water activities. Be it swimming or kayaking, I just love the feeling of water against my skin. So that's the reason why i was extremely excited about going for the kayaking course. But of course, I not only picked up all these skills mentioned above, I learnt several life lessons in which not many people would have picked up in their entire lives. Perseverance has always been one of the many values I treasured dearly. The fact that I was an ex-cedarian further explains why perseverance is one of my key-values ( perseverance can be found on our cedar badge! ). There are also many other important values like team-work, compromising, being organised and planning beforehand.
Through this short period of 3 months, I have come to realized that the activities that i have gone through in ODAC has been really enriching and an eye-opening experience for me. During the selection camp which was from 23rd - 24th march, I can proudly say that I put in my best effort for the camp. Whether or not I get chosen to continue in ODAC, I must still thank ODAC for giving me this new once-in-a-lifetime chance of experiencing the outdoors in a whole new light. Thank you for giving me memories that can last me a lifetime, memories which I can look back and smile at. So that's all for now, folks! See ya soon! =)
